PLATFORM

Jake Kelza Pollock for Ward 2: “No Baloney in Sandwich Town”
A Platform Built on Community, Transparency and Accountability.
No Team. No Billboards. No Baloney. Just me, showing up.

This by-election is only for a one year term but that’s long enough to start building the foundation for real, lasting change. My platform focuses on what’s achievable now, while planting seeds for a future of accountable, transparent leadership in Windsor Ontario.

1. Encouraging Civic Engagement

Ward 2 had less than 20% voter turnout in 2022 which means roughly 80% residents didn’t have a say in who represents them. It’s no wonder why Ward 2 residents feel disconnected and unheard.

My goal is to make city council more approachable and inclusive by:

Hosting regular community roundtables to listen directly to residents.

Ensuring consistent community presence in the ward.

Using accessible communication tools both online and offline so everyone can engage in decisions that impact their daily lives.

When people feel heard, they get involved. When they get involved, progress follows.

2. Advocating for Transparency and Accessibility

Transparency should be the bare minimum, not a campaign promise.

Right now, Windsor’s city website is outdated and difficult to navigate, making it hard for residents to access minutes, city or councillor activities. When councillors actively block residents on social media, it shuts the door even further on public access.

I’ll push for:

A modern, user-friendly city website that makes key information easy to find and understand.

Clearer documentation of council votes, motions and city activities.

Official social media transparency guidelines, so residents can access information even if blocked by their representatives.

Residents deserve to know what’s happening without having to dig for it.

3. Strengthening the Sandwich BIA

The Sandwich BIA faces unique challenges. With much of the business district being city owned, levy contributions are limited which is slowing down revitalization efforts.

As the Gordie Howe International Bridge opens, if Sandwich St. is being left in the dust, the rest of the ward suffers too.

I’ll work toward:

Allowing the BIA to activate city owned spaces (like Mackenzie Hall and Mary E. Bibb Park) at no cost in lieu of levies.

Supporting community events and beautification efforts that make the area more inviting for residents, visitors and investors.

Partnering with local businesses and artists to revitalize Ward 2 as the welcoming gateway it should be.

Strengthening Ward 2’s main street and new access point to the city is key to revitalizing the entire community.

4. Housing, Affordability and Accountability

Holding landlords accountable is important, but so is addressing affordability.

I will advocate to:

Improve housing affordability and increase the supply of quality rentals.

Balance compliance enforcement with proactive housing solutions.

Address the root causes of unsafe and unaffordable housing, not just the symptoms.

When tenants have real viable choices, landlords have to stay engaged and competitive.
Addressing the root causes should be just as much of a priority as enforcing compliance

5. Homelessness

There’s no simple solution to homelessness and pretending there is only delays meaningful progress. Addressing housing insecurity requires empathy, consultation and investment in the systems that support people before they reach crisis.

From volunteering experiences and from speaking directly to community partners, EMS, police, etc, one thing is clear:

The H4 (Housing, Homelessness and Help Hub) needs to stay close to essential downtown resources like hospitals, police and social services. We also need to strengthen the supports that help people stabilize their lives.

Rather than promising to advocate to “keep the mission out of ward 2” like some other candidates, I will advocate for:

Increased city support or funding for housing, mental health and addiction services.

Long term investment in outreach and harm reduction programs.

A stronger collaboration between municipal, provincial and nonprofit partners to ensure people get help where and when they need it.

I believe decisions like this should be made from community consultation and collaboration with people on the frontlines who understand and deal with these realities every day.

6. Defending Democracy

While marketed as tools to “build homes faster,” Strong Mayor Powers have been used repeatedly to make staffing and policy decisions without full council input. Power without accountability creates resentment, not results.

I’ll advocate for:

A culture of mutual respect, collaboration and transparency in city leadership.

While other candidates have written 5000 word essays on how strong mayor powers have the
“potential to reinvigorate local democracy”, strong mayor powers will never be anything more
than a slap in the face to democracy.

7. Authentic Representation

My slogan, “No Baloney in Sandwich Town,” isn’t just catchy, it’s a promise:

To be real, approachable and honest.

To speak up when something isn’t right even if it’s unpopular or uncomfortable.

To embrace residents holding me accountable.

This by-election only lasts a year but your vote shapes how the future begins. No baloney, just accountable, transparent leadership that listens, learns and leads with passion over political optics.

8. Growth

A vote for me is planting a tree so you can sit in shade tomorrow.

By allowing me to grow in this role, I’ll continue learning from you about the challenges, successes and daily realities that shape Ward 2 and the City of Windsor. The more I grow, the better I can represent you.

“Some of these other candidates are just naturally shady lmao” – Jake Kelza Pollock
